Partnering with God - the antidote to chaos
Share
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. We've all heard the words before but what do they actually mean?
Throughout creation, God is commanding order out of chaos. Just like the first words spoken in Genesis - ‘let there be light’. When your world is dark, things are chaotic and it's impossible to see where you're going but with light, you notice the patterns, obstacles stand out and the path forward is clear.
Another thing to notice is that God isn't simply deleting chaos to create order; in fact, He controls and redefines it. In Genesis 1:2, the spirit of God is first introduced hovering over the waters of the formless earth and even in Matthew 14 Jesus (the physical embodiment of God) walks on the water in the midst of the wind and the waves. This clearly shows us that chaos is not something that God avoids but something He confronts head-on. He doesn't run from it, He strips it of its authority. This is also reflected in the Hebrew word ‘Shalom’ which when written in the Hebrew alphabet can translate to destroying the authority attached to chaos. God carries out such in many instances in the bible.
Mankind was given a mandate to bring forth order out of chaos in partnership with God. Exemplified when Adam was told to name all the animals on earth and received dominion over them. But when we lose our focus on God and become distracted by our fears, we end up drowning in the chaos just like Peter when trying to walk on water in Matthew 14. So as you go about your day, think of all the ways you've taken your eyes off of God (we've all been there) and invite Him back into your journey because He is so much greater than any form of chaos you may encounter. Set your eyes on Him; He's always willing to reach out when you need a hand (Matthew
14:31).
